“Tee-up” for the Cottonwood River Golf Tournament

The Redwood-Cottonwood Rivers Control Area (RCRCA), which administers the Cottonwood River Restoration Project, is hosting “Tee-up” for the Cottonwood River Golf Tournament along the banks of the Cottonwood River at the Farmer’s Golf and Health Club in Sanborn, MN.

The best-shot golf tournament will be held on Thursday, September 19th beginning with a 10 am shotgun start.  The 18-hole tournament will consist of 3 person teams with the green fees being paid for by RCRCA.  The event is open to the public.  RCRCA is hosting the tournament in an effort to educate watershed residents of the natural beauty of our rivers and to promote the recreational use and conservation programs available to watershed landowners.  The event is co-sponsored by KNUJ AM, BRAT 107.3 FM and The County Hog 94.7 FM.

The event will conclude with a meal and prizes.  Area businesses whom have donated prizes include:  Fox Brothers International, Gramstad Lumber Company, Deutschland Meats, Inc., First Security Bank, Sanborn Farmers Elevator and the Amoco Food Shop, all of Sanborn; Miller & Sellner Implement, Bruggeman Company Inc. and Christenson Family Farms, all of Sleepy Eye; Doug’s Lawn & Landscaping Service, LLC of Redwood Falls; Harvest Land Cooperative of Morgan; Running’s Fleet & Farm of Springfield; Nicklasson Athletic Company, Inc., of New Ulm and the Phat Pheasant Pub of Windom.  Organizations also donating prizes include:  Ducks Unlimited, Red Rock Chapter and The Turkey Federation, Redwood River Boss Toms.

“Tee-up” for the Cottonwood River Golf Tournament will bring to its participants water quality information while enjoying a round of golf.  It is a way to bring together water quality specialists and interested residents in an informal setting to share the enjoyment and beauty of the river.  Residents can learn about what is being done to improve the rivers and the programs that are offered.

RCRCA was formed in 1983 as an eight county joint powers organization.  Member counties and Soil and Water Conservation Districts include:  Brown, Cottonwood, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood and Yellow Medicine.

To participate in the tournament, call Roseanne Kaseforth, RCRCA Watershed Educator by September 12th at  507-637-2142, ext. 4.  The tournament will be limited to 18 teams.  For more information about RCRCA and the Cottonwood River Restoration Project, visit their web site at www.rcrca.com.
